Who spends the most time on social media? Well, duh!?! It’s the millennials! It’s not a big surprise that it is dominated by mainly young people. However, if we dive into the statistics, we find that 90% of people in the USA in the age group of 18-29 engage with social media, while 77% of the 30-49 age group are engaged.
And where do they spend their time? 67% of the millennials use their smartphones to stay updated on social media. Only 21% of millennials use a laptop, while a lesser 12% use a tablet device. Three out of five millennials use more than one social network.
And when do they spend their time online? Evening appears to be the prime time for the millennials for being on social media with 33% of users logging in during this time of day, while 24% do it in the afternoon.
So what are they freaking out about? Generally, the millennials tend to dismiss Facebook for security reasons. 29% find its privacy guarantee disturbing.
The range of interests is shared in quite equal parts within the range of 42-56% among business, education, science, sports, career, hobbies, gaming, health and science. While news is interesting to 75% of users, weather to 71%, food and cooking to 62% and travelling appeals to 59%.
Advertising is credible upon the recommendations of friends and relatives rather than self-promotion by the brands themselves.
The millennials are definitely the most influenced by blog posts or social networking sites.
